Raye says: “About twenty years ago while learning to flycast I had what I can only describe as an epiphany experience. The very act of
throwing a fly line was so magical that the possibility of catching a fish (which I had foolishly thought was the goal) was reduced to a mere bonus. Fly fishing has enriched my life in ways I could never have predicted. I've edited a book of fishing quotations, "Hooked, Witty Quotes from Serious Anglers," written a history of a trout club in Colorado, collaborated with Dallas composer Bert Truax on the musical tale "Fish and Whistle," (think "Peter and the Wolf") that has been performed for thousands of Texas school children, and contributed to "A Woman's No Nonsense Guide to Fly Fishing Favorite Waters." I've fished all over the world, taught hundreds of people to fly cast, am a FFF Certified Fly Casting Instructor, and count fly fishers as my best friends. Now, I am in the midst of a new adventure--not on the mountain trout stream I had always envisioned but on one of Texas' last wild rivers. The magic continues.” David says, “I made a trip to fish the Llano River on Easter weekend, 2000. Raye took me on a guided fly fishing trip and reeled me in.” Born in Muleshoe, Texas, David’s earlier career as a CPA and oil executive prepared him for the challenges of operating a small rural business. An excellent fly fisher, David assists Raye in teaching large classes, and he designed the popular “On the River” session. This wading, hands-on fly fishing experience allows David to teach students exactly how to find fish and how to catch them. Each morning, as chef, David prepares the sumptuous breakfasts. Raye and David feel privileged to be able to wake up every day on the Llano River, to spend their days doing something they love and to be able to provide a truly unique destination for travelers. |
